August Schwind

Police Officer August Schwind succumbed to injuries sustained when he was thrown from his horse on Jefferson Drive near Clayton Avenue in Forest Park.

He was returning to the Forest Park Station when his horse began to gallop. As he tried to get control of the horse he was thrown from it and suffered a fractured skull. He was taken to a local hospital where he succumbed to the injuries four hours later.

Officer Schwind had served with the agency for 21 years. He was survived by his wife and son.
