Reserve Deputy Sheriff Lee Sawyer was killed in an automobile accident at the intersection of San Jose Avenue and Compton Boulevard while on patrol.

Deputy Sawyer had served with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department for nine years and was assigned to Lakewood Station. He was survived by his wife, daughter, and two sons.
