Officer Louis Sander was shot and killed by a motorcyclist after stopping him for a traffic infraction.
The suspect shot Officer Sander before he was able to get off his motorcycle. Officer Sander was able to return fire but the suspect escaped.
The suspect was tracked and apprehended, and after being convicted was sentenced to 99 years in prison. The suspect, and his brother, had been involved in an earlier robbery in Arkansas.
Officer Sander had served with the Houston Police Department for 3 years. He was survived by his wife and daughter.
