I was dispatching the night that Felix was killed and it's a sadness I will never forget. I actually called his radio number because myself and the records clerk were going to have him pick up something for us to eat. He didn't answer. I radioed him again and still, no answer. Officers never failed to respond when called by the dispatcher. I then received a call of an accident at 8th & Caesar and the caller said it sounded bad. Responding officers immediately screamed that it was Officer Salinas. He was transported to Kleberg County Hospital but for all practical purposes he was DOA on the scene.
Officer Salinas was kind hearted, funny and an all around good officer. I will never forget walking into the funeral home and seeing 2 police officers, at parade rest, on either side of his casket. I hope his family is doing well.
