Deputy Sheriff Burns Almon succumbed to a gunshot wound sustained two weeks earlier while conducting a raid on a still near Decatur.
As the officers arrived at the scene the suspects began to flee the scene on foot. One of the suspects fell to the ground and opened fire, striking Deputy Almon. That suspect was shot and killed.
