Policeman Joseph Romero was killed in an automobile crash as he and his partner transported a shop owner to the police station for an interview.
His partner made a left turn in front of a streetcar on Marchessault Street near modern-day Cesar Chavez, causing a collision. Both officers were seriously injured and underwent surgery as a result. Policeman Romero succumbed to his injuries during the surgery.
