Add to My HeroesDavid Thomas Robertson
Sheriff David Robertson was killed in an automobile crash while en route to visit one of his deputies who had been involved in an accident earlier in the day.
Sheriff Robertson was traveling west on US 460 about 10 miles east of Lynchburg at 4:30 pm when the vehicle in front of him began skidding on the icy highway. He applied brakes to keep from hitting the car, causing his vehicle to skid, turning sideways, and was struck by a truck traveling east.
Sheriff Robertson was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of WWII and Purple Heart recipient. He had served as the Sheriff of the Appomattox County Sheriff's Office for 10 years and with the agency for 17 years. He was survived by his wife, who was in the car with him when the crash occurred.
