Trooper Pearle Roberts was killed in a motorcycle crash in Mount Carmel while returning to headquarters following duty at a college football game.
The front wheel of his police motorcycle became caught in a streetcar track on Whitney Boulevard. He was thrown to the ground and sustained fatal injuries.
Trooper Roberts was survived by his expectant wife.

Saturday marks 95 years since Connecticut State Police lost their first trooper in the line of duty.
Trooper Pearle Roberts died on Nov. 25, 1922. State Police said he was fatally injured in a motorcycle accident while on duty in New Haven.
The agency was founded in 1903. Roberts’ death came nearly 20 years later.
