I was just the little kid that lived next door. My Dad Tommy was a friend and a fellow HPD cop. I remember our families building their houses together in Alvin. Mr Riley was always nice to me. He even gave me a forged metal shop project that he did in high school. I still have it today.
Their daughter was still a baby. I remember praying for him with my mom after his accident. It was one of my first experiences with death and I have thought of the Mom and Daughter 10,000 times. I look back on it now that I am more than twice the age that he was when he passed and it still leaves me wondering why.
He was a good man trying to serve his community. I will always remember him. I still drive by those two houses and always remember Jerry Riley.
If the daughter wants the shop project that he gave me as a kid I would gladly return it.
