Ferman Raines

Chief Ferman Raines was killed in an automobile accident while on duty.

Chief Raines was responding to an alarm at Houston Brothers Service Repair Center in Buckhorn. At about 10:32 p.m. his patrol car veered off of Business Route I-44 in west Waynesville. His vehicle went airborne, struck a utility pole, overturned and landed just outside the Waynesville Bus Station. Chief Raines was thrown from the vehicle and died from his injuries.

Chief Raines joined the Waynesville Police Department in Pulaski County in 1969. Chief Raines also served 26 years in the U.S. Army. He was survived by his son.
