I understand that Caleb Lawyer Campbell, inmate #Y56064, has petitioned for Executive Clemency.

I respectfully ask that you do not consider clemency or early release of any kind for inmate #Y56064. On Wednesday, August 4, 2021, inmate #Y56064 fled from law enforcement after an incident at the nightclub. He had a handgun in the car and an active Missouri warrant for his arrest when he did not stop. During the pursuit, inmate #Y56064 traveled up to speeds of 98 miles per hour to elude police. Police Officer Brian Pierce was deploying spike strips on the McKinley Bridge in an attempt to stop inmate #Y56064; however, inmate #Y56064 struck him and kept driving across the McKinley Bridge into Missouri, where his vehicle was found abandoned. Inmate #Y56064 was not apprehended until sixteen days later.

Police Officer Brian Russell Pierce, Jr. was only 24 years old. He was a dedicated officer who served with the Brooklyn Police Department for almost three years. As a role model in the community, he also served with the Makanda Fire Department. But, most importantly, Officer Pierce was a devoted son, brother, grandson, and uncle.

As a concerned citizen, and in the interest of public safety, I again respectfully ask that you keep inmate #Y56064, who was sentenced to a term of natural life for first-degree murder, ten years in prison for failure to report an accident involving injury or death, and three years in prison for failure to stop following an accident involving injury or death, behind bars for the entirety of his life sentence. Justice demands that he be made to spend every remaining day of his life in prison.
