I respectfully ask you to deny parole for inmate Ashley Cheriselacole Johnigan, inmate #WA2744.

On May 1, 2008, inmate #WA2744 caused the tragic death of Senior Investigator Laura Jean Cleaves while fleeing California Highway Patrol officers. Intoxicated after consuming the equivalent of 16 alcoholic drinks, inmate #WA2744 ignored repeated warnings from bar staff and a ride offer from a taxi driver, choosing to drive instead. California Highway Patrol officers arrived to assist, but inmate WA2744 sped off, leading to a high-speed collision with two oncoming vehicles, resulting in the death of Senior Investigator Cleaves and injuries to another civilian.

Senior Investigator Cleaves was a highly respected officer and a dedicated advocate for her community, serving with the Santa Barbara County District Attorney's Office for 24 years and in law enforcement for 32 years. She was actively involved in various charitable activities, including volunteering for the Santa Ynez Valley Therapeutic Riding Academy. Beyond her professional achievements, she was a devoted wife and mother to two daughters.

Given the gravity of the incident and the disregard for multiple warnings about the potential consequences of driving under the influence, I strongly request that inmate #WA2744 serve her complete prison sentence without parole to ensure public safety and uphold justice.
