I respectfully ask that you DENY PAROLE to Shatiek Johnson, inmate #99A6891. The inmate's murder of Police Officer Gerard Louis Carter of the New York City Police Department should preclude any and all consideration for parole.

On Sunday, July 26, 1998, Police Officer Carter and his partner were sitting in a marked police van outside a New York City Housing Authority building when inmate #99A6891 
approached them and shot Officer Carter in the temple. Officer Carter died on July 31, 1998.

Inmate #99A6891 was on parole for killing a homeless man two years prior. There was a warrant for his arrest for killing a 15-year-old rival gang member ten days before ambushing Police Officer Carter. Inmate #99A6891 was only arrested after an armed stand-off in an apartment complex.

Police Officer Gerard Carter, 28 years old, was a dedicated and decorated member of the New York City Police Department who received two Excellent Police Duty Awards and had a spotless service record. As a role model in the community, he coached youth softball and baseball teams and was involved in the Law Enforcement Explorers Post. But, most importantly, he was a devoted husband, father, son, and brother. His father was a 24-year veteran of the NYPD.

Inmate #99A6891 has murdered three people. As a concerned citizen and in the interest of public safety, I again respectfully ask that you DENY PAROLE to inmate #99A6891. Justice demands that he be made to spend every remaining day of his FULL SENTENCE of life without parole in prison.
