The Martinez Police Department learned that Police Officer Tarantino’s killer, inmate A90679, was granted parole on January 4th. They were never notified by the Parole Board or anyone else that the hearing was coming up. They are doing everything they can to fight the release of his killer, inmate #A-90679, on the basis that a legal error has occurred, and they should have statutorily been notified 30 days prior to the hearing.

I respectfully ask that you DENY PAROLE to Curtis Lee Morrison, inmate #A90679. The inmate's murder of Police Officer Thomas George Tarantino of the Martinez Police Department should preclude any and all consideration for parole.

On Saturday, April 21, 1973, Martinez Police Department received a call of a broken down truck near the Alhambra exit on Highway 4, and a man was outside of the truck, passed out. Officer Tarantino stopped to assist, took inmate #A90679's pulse, and woke him up, then appeared to be trying to help him start his truck. However, inmate #A90679 was on parole for a manslaughter conviction, and Officer Tarantino attempted to arrest him for having a concealed pistol.

A pathologist testified that there was evidence Officer Tarantino was beaten and dragged and that his face had been stomped on. Using Officer Tarantino's own service weapon, inmate #90679 shot him in the stomach, then pointed the gun directly at Officer Tarantino's head and fired again, all while the officer pleaded with him, according to multiple eyewitnesses. He shot him a total of four times. Moments after inmate #A90679 killed Officer Tarantino, a California Highway Patrol officer drove up and arrested him. When police searched his truck, the .22-caliber pistol found had been used in the December 1972 murder of an Antioch liquor store clerk.

Police Officer Thomas Tarantino was a dedicated member of the Martinez Police Department. But, most importantly, he was a devoted husband and father to his two sons.

Inmate #A90679 was on parole for manslaughter when he murdered Police Officer Thomas Tarantino. As a concerned citizen and in the interest of public safety, I again respectfully ask that you DENY PAROLE to inmate Inmate #A90679. Justice demands that he be made to spend every remaining day of his FULL SENTENCE of life without parole in prison.
