To whom it may concern,

I respectfully ask that you DENY PAROLE to Donald Smith, inmate #31733. This inmate brutally murdered Sergeant David Hue Anthony, Sr., on Wednesday, May 23, 1973.

Sergeant David Anthony was shot and killed when he interrupted a bank robbery. During the robbery, two subjects assaulted and held multiple employees hostage while stealing over $30,000. When Sergeant Anthony attempted to enter the bank after receiving a report of an alarm, one of the men pushed the door on him while inmate #31733 shot him in the face. During his escape, inmate #31733 carjacked the driver and a passenger in a vehicle that had pulled up to the bank. He was apprehended in Louisiana a few hours later. Inmate #31733 pleaded guilty to committing murder and received a life sentence. Kidnapping and robbery added 45 and 30 years to his life sentence. He was also convicted of four more counts of aggravated assault and robbery, adding 62 total years to be served after his 1973 conviction.

Sergeant David Anthony was a dedicated officer who served with the Hattiesburg Police Department for five years. Prior to becoming a law enforcement officer, he served with the United States Navy and was a Korean War veteran. He was highly regarded in the community. More importantly, David Anthony was a devoted husband, father, son, and brother.

Inmate #37033 also committed robberies in Louisiana and Texas when he was apprehended for the murder of Sergeant Anthony. He poses a clear and present danger to society and must remain locked up for the entire life sentence.

Parole is a privilege and not a right. The inmate's history and the severity of this crime demand that he spend every remaining day of his life in prison. As a concerned citizen and in the interest of public safety, I again respectfully ask that you DENY PAROLE to inmate #31733.
