Reflections for K9 Waro

The First & The Last

The first to sense the hostility of a suspect,
The first to react to protect his master,
The first to enter where danger lurks,
The first to detect the hidden intruder.
The first to take action against violence.
The first to sense his master’s joy.
The first to know his master’s sorrow or fear.
The first to give his life in defense of his master.
The last to be forgotten by those who work with others like him.
They know him as a “Partner”, not just an animal.

As the Commanding Officer of the Patrol Division for the Jonesboro Police Department, I am deeply saddened by the loss of K9 Waro, a true hero.

It is the officers in my division who requested this incredible K9 team to assist us in the wee hours of the morning, to help us track down a dangerous man, armed, who needed to be caught so that the residents of our city and county could be safe - as well as our police officers.

The Clayton County Police Department responded to assist us as they always do, with the tip of the spear in this K9 team, K9 Waro out front doing what he did best, to protect the people of our county and bring bad men to justice. And that's exactly what he did!

I believe strongly that if it were not for the actions of this K9 team, their collective sacrifice and the sacrifice of K9 Waro, this story may have ended much differently and even worse than what it did, though to be clear, this outcome is completely unacceptable as well.

His loss is devastating to our department.

K9 Waro is a hero! And on behalf of the entire patrol division of the Jonesboro Police Department, WE HONOR YOU K9 WARO. You saved the life of one of our officers and we will forever be in debt for your service and sacrifice.

We all give some, but on this day, you gave all.

May the Lord bless you, may he keep you and may you rest in peace as all "good boys" do.

You will never be forgotten.

You've done your part son, sleep well, and we'll take it from here.

Sincerely,
Lt. G. Newsom, Commanding Officer, JPD Patrol Division

K9 Waro, such a waste of two young lives lost. Yours on the path to glory, the perp's on a path to doom. You performed exceptionally with a heart of complete dedication to your partner - his heart now bursting with pride and pain. Let him know you completed your tour right on time, right where destiny had you to be. Your Creator wanted you home. May He shower your partner, family and department with His healing balm and hang a star in the Heavens with your name on it.

Lord God of unfailing love, to those families of our beloved nation, the United States of America, who are suffering in the wake of the loss of a Law Enforcement K-9 family member in the Line-of-Duty, help us to provide support. Allow us to be their rock and fortress in a time of immense pain and uncertainty. Help us to keep them safe and nourished in their time of grief, suffering beside them as we move toward healing and reconciliation. Lord God, in Your compassionate mercy, hear my prayer. Amen.
