This poem was written for K9 Fargo of the Richland County Sheriff's Department in Honor of the unquestionable sacrifices K9's make in their everyday service to their partners and Agencies! Let this poem stand as a tribute to all our K9 Heroes who give the ultimate sacrifice!
“Our K9 Named Fargo"
He was just another Police dog,
I was going to have to train,
He was a beautiful “Belgian Malinois”,
And Fargo was his name.
We worked so hard together,
From sun up until Night,
His future as a Police Dog,
Became our daily plight.
This dog could do anything,
He was so easy to train,
Each day he made me so proud,
My partner “Fargo” was his name.
After months of rigorous training,
Fargo was ready for the road,
It didn’t take long to prove himself,
He was one of the best-I was told!
He hit on the drugs every time,
And tracked down the criminals too,
He did everything I ask of him,
There was nothing he wouldn’t do.
We stayed together day and night,
This dog I had to train,
He was my partner and my friend,
“Fargo” was his name!
It was the 16th of December,
With the moon and stars so bright,
When “Fargo” hit the trail of a robber,
My heart stopped when shots rang in the night!
My Partner was hit several times,
This K9 I had to train,
We cried because he didn’t make it,
My partner “Fargo” was his name!

K9 Riley,
You are a hero at heavens gate. The lush green grass fields reserved for heroes such as yourself in heaven is your playground now! No pain, no worries just the love of all the K9s and their handlers who came before you! We got it from here sweet boy!
You your handler, my deepest condolences. I know that day was filled with more loss than any department should ever go through.
K9 Riley, my thoughts are with your handler, fellow officers, department, community and all who called you friend.

Rest in peace our 4 legged brother. You have served well. God bless the family and co-workers of Deputy Gibson on this great loss. Having been a handler, I can only imagine the pain everyone is feeling right now for both Deputy Gibson and his partner.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the sons of God. Matt 5:9

K-9 Riley, Oh my God, only He knows why you died in the line of duty to save your partner, Deputy Sheriff Gibson. There is NO earthly explanation. You died a HERO beyond description, along with your partner. I know you both must be at some level of comfort that we here can never know - you did the MOST IMPORTANT thing in all of history - protecting your partner - you have the soul of God - may you forever shine.
