Ike, You did your job well only to have some coward take your life. You protected your handler, and the rest of VPD. You will be greatly missed, a hole is left in our hearts, but we know you have crossed the rainbow bridge, and now have new friends to romp with. You have earned your rest, and will again see those you have loved. I feel honored to have met you.

K-9 Officer Ike. My heart was broken when I heard of your death. But then I pictured you in heaven chewing a giant dog bone, chasing frisbees and running free and I smiled. Thanks for your service, loyalty and fearlessness. I live in Georgia and a county nearby was just granted the funds to purchase bullet-proof vests for their dogs (3). However, there are still so many departments where dogs do not have vests. Hopefully, in the near future, we will be able to fit all K-9 dogs with vests and even neck protection and some type of face helmet. (Same for all our men and women officers also).

K9 Police Officer Ike, you gave your life for the protection of your handler and other two legged partners. It is now your time to rest across the Rainbow Bridge and met some new four legged friends. There will be no more "bad guys" to chase, so you have more time to run and play all day. To your handler and other officers in the Vancouver Police Department Stay Strong.

K9 Ike:

Thank you for your law enforcement service to the citizens of Vancouver, Washington, and to the Vancouver Police Department. Let us celebrate your accomplishments and remember your selfless sacrifice. However, death is not the end; it does not have the final say! All dogs do go to heaven because you have a spirit that epitomizes God's unconditional love. And He [Jesus] said to him, "Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise" Luke 23:43. Now, my four-legged Comrade in Blue, rest easy, we will take it from here. "Well done, good and faithful servant" Matthew 25:11. May the Lord God bless you always.

Police Chaplain Steven R. Closs, IHS
Merrimack NH Police Department
