The hearts of all 23 of our canine teams go out to Officer Wes Zygmont for the loss of his K9 partner, "Ronin". All of us understand fully your loss, for we have two of our own on the ODMP from September 28, 2006. We know of the agonizing pain to lose the one you walk so close to. Some say the dog is simply a tool, as handlers we know better. This "tool" just saved Officer Zygmont's life so he may return to his family and friends. Appropriately, the poem below by an unknown author.

"The Working Dog"
My eyes are your eyes,
To watch and protect yours.

My ears are your ears ,
To hear and detect evil minds in the dark.

My nose is your nose,
To scent the invader of your domain.

And so you may live, my life is also yours.

He did what he was trained to do! A man goes home to his family's arms because our most loyal partner did his job. He does not ask for pay, promotion and does not care about the staffs policies. His only concern is his master, his trainer and his friend.

Good boy Ronin, good boy
