Reflections for K9 Koda

Koda, may God bless your soul! A courageous hero who gave his all to serve and protect. My sympathy to his partner, his family, and the officers who worked closely with him. I, too, have a Koda and know that life would be very difficult without him.

Koda your service was beautiful and so many people showed up in support of you and your handler. It's not every day you see a police officer cry but many tears were shed for you, some of sadness and some of joyful memories. You were a brave and beautiful soul. Do me a favor and check on my Rosie every once in awhile, I miss her dearly. Good job sweet boy you will not be forgotten.

So very sad. Someone once told me that you can always tell the character of a person by how they treat an animal. God bless Koda's handler and may peace be taken in the fact that Koda knew he was loved.

You have guarded our backs, always with that pleasure to please. We have trusted you even when we had our own doubts, and you prevailed. Thanks for never showing fear when there was fear and always going the extra mile no matter what the call was. You will be missed, you will never be replaced. Go and romp in that great puppy heaven, play with the ball and roll on your back forever. You earned it partner.

I've thought about this all morning, since reading of Koda's selfless act of sacrifice and heroism. There exists a special bond between some people and the animals that come into their lives. Meaning no dis-respect, for I too have lost loved ones, as well as partners, and it is a hurt almost unbearable, but the loss of a beloved animal partner can be just as intense and difficult, especially under circumstances as noble and courageous as was Koda's. My prayers go out to Koda's handler & friends. Without seeming unrealistic, I do believe God has a special place for any creature so capable of such selfless love, devotion and trust. After all, they are also His creation, and scripture tells us not a sparrow falls from the sky without His knowledge.
