K9 Garda died from exposure to narcotics after screening a tractor suspected of transporting methamphetamine at the Calexico East Port of Entry at 1699 Carr Road in Calexico.
When K9 Garda began showing symptoms of heavy breathing, red eyes, and unsteady walking, NARCAN was administered, and she was transported to the local veterinarian hospital. Despite attempts to resuscitate K9 Garda, she was pronounced deceased.
K9 Garda served with the United States Department of Homeland Security - Customs and Border Protection - Office of Field Operations for over three years.
