Waro

K9 Waro was shot and killed while attempting an apprehension of an armed juvenile behind 334 West Avenue in Jonesboro.

Officers from the Jonesboro Police Department had responded to a hotel on Tara Boulevard where they encountered three subjects with narcotics and weapons at about 1:45 am. Two of the subjects, including the juvenile, fled from officers as they were placed under arrest. The other subject was immediately apprehended, but the juvenile ran into a wooded area and hid approximately one block away. Assistance from the Clayton County Police Department canine was requested to search for the subject in the woods.

K9 Waro alerted to the subject, who then shot at him and the officers. K9 Waro was taken to a local veterinary hospital where he succumbed to his wounds.

The subject fled but was shot and killed several hours later when he was located near his home and attempted to shoot at officers again.

K9 Waro had served with the Clayton County Police Department for 2-1/2 years.

The last to be forgotten by those who work with others like him.
They know him as a “Partner”, not just an animal.
