K9 Harrie died when he suffered heatstroke while tracking subjects who fled on foot after crashing a stolen vehicle at David Raines Road and Skelly Street.

At 4:15 pm, K9 Harrie and his handler were assisting officers in locating the subjects who abandoned a stolen vehicle following a vehicle pursuit. K9 Harrie began exhibiting signs of a heat-related injury and he was taken to the Animal Emergency Clinic and Intensive Care Facility, where efforts to save him were unsuccessful.

Shreveport's temperatures were in the 90s with a heat index well above 100 degrees.

K9 Harrie had served with the Shreveport Police Department for six years.
