K9 Caesar was struck and killed by a vehicle while attempting to come to the assistance of his handler who was struggling with a suspect on Research Parkway.

The handler and other officers had gone to the area as the result of illegal drag racing on the roadway. The handler was attempting to arrest a man who started to resist. Caesar jumped from the patrol car to come to his aid but was struck by a passing car.

K9 Caesar had served with the Meriden Police Department for 1-1/2 years.
