K9 Fero was shot and killed by an officer while attempting an apprehension of an armed robbery suspect near 1100 N. Washington Street.
K9 Fero mistook an officer for the suspect during the apprehension and began running toward the officer. The officer discharged his firearm to avoid being bitten and fatally wounded K9 Fero.
The robbery suspect was apprehended a short time later.
K9 Fero had served with the Marion Police Department for two years.
