K9 Rudi succumbed to injuries sustained three days earlier when the police vehicle he was riding in was struck by another vehicle.

K9 Rudi and his handler were responding to a request for assistance from the canine unit to track an armed man who had fled from police on foot. K9 Rudi's handler had the emergency equipment activated when the police vehicle was struck by another vehicle at the intersection of Nellis Boulevard and Stewart Avenue. K9 Rudi suffered a fractured and dislocated hip and was permanently paralyzed. It was determined the best course of action was to euthanize her humanely.

K9 Rudi had served with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department for six months.
