K9 Kirk was shot and killed by a robbery suspect he was apprehending in an empty lot at 7502 S. Dorchester Avenue.

The suspect shot K9 Kirk in the neck as Kirk attempted the apprehension. Officers on the scene returned fire and killed the subject.
