K9 Chris was shot and killed inside the kennel at his handler's home in the Bald Mountain area of Yancey County.
K9 Chris had been placed in his kennel at approximately 8:30 pm and its body was discovered at approximately 5:00 am. Investigators believe that Chris was known to be a sheriff's canine when shot.
K9 Chris had served with the Yancey County Sheriff's Office for seven years.
