K9 Harley died of heat stroke after being left in a patrol car as his handler conducted a vice investigation with other officers.

When his handler returned to the vehicle he found Harley unresponsive.

Harley had served as a narcotics detection canine with the Des Moines Police Department for seven years.

This lifelong dog owner cried...hard...reading this, despite it being 7 years old now. Thank you, Harley, for your unquestionable loyalty to enforcing the law and to those around you. The pain of this tragedy is offset by your service and by the beautiful pictures of you that I have seen. May you continue to do good, wherever you are now.
