As a consequence of a drunk driver, I never met my paternal grandfather. Instead, he was killed in the line of duty about 14 years before I was born. My father, 9 years old at the time, was traumatized by his father's death, which contributed to my father's death in 1986 at the age of 57. I have visited memorials listing the name of Officer Leonard Nelson in Sacramento, California and in Washington, DC. Dr. Gene A. Nelson Rest in Peace, Officer Nelson. Your sacrifice is not forgotten.
