 | Police Officer Anthony Oswald McLean New York City Housing Authority Police Department New York Wednesday, April 13, 1988 |
We came on together & I thought we all would leave together but God had a different plan for you. I visited your grave today to pay my respect and my 5 yr old asked "who was he mommy"? I told him that you were a hero and my friend. When I was on patrol & you were out I was never hungry, cold Or wet. Miss you. You kept me laughing and will never be forgotten po.teresa henry nycpd 2009-07-15
Your heroism and service is honored today, the twenty-first anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.
I hold your family in my thoughts and prayers today. You are loved and missed by so many.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day To respond to calls unknown. He drives a marked patrol car. A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes To make it safe on the streets. But he usually has a second job 'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday 'Cause he works all year round. And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often, The one whos blood runs blue. He seldom ever gets a thanks, To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops 'Cause people just don't understand That underneath his badge and gun, He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow In this world of drugs and crime. And he gets so mad at the court system 'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work, He prays to God above. Please bring me home after my shift So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car, He's alone down this ole' highway. It's just a little traffic infraction. He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window, And his badge is shining bright. He asked the guy for a driver's license, When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark, Striking the officer in the chest. But the Department's budget didn't buy Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding. His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red. And briefly he thought of his loved ones 'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story Of how this officer had died. And some who listened cared less, But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform With his badge pinned on his chest. He even had his revolver, He died doing his best.

Although most of us at PSA 2 did not have the priviledge to work with you . Your memory and spirit are alive and well and your courage remains an example to all our young officers who walk the projects. Look out for them when you can, and we will continue to remember your sacrifice Rest in peace. Sgt Thomas O'Rourke NYPD--PSA2 2007-04-15
Officer McLean, today marks the 19th anniversary of your murder. We can only hope that your killer found true justice at some point in his/her miserable life or in the afterlife. Your Police Department is now a thing of the past, however, though you are physically gone, you are always part of the present. I know you are still on the beat and with your family to this day. You will not be forgotten. You are a hero.
God Bless and may you continue to Rest in Peace, Brother. Ptl. Jim Leahy, Jr. Harvard University Police Dept. 2007-04-13
Tony was a stand up guy. He was hard not to like and was a great Police Officers. When I got the call from my partner about Tony I was stuned, it was hard to take. From then on the job was totally different and I never looked at things the same way. My prayers go out to his family. God bless Tony and rest easy in the lords arms. PO Gary Randone PSA-2 2007-03-22
Ofc. McLean,
Today as I opened up a magazine from November 1988 called "Official Detective" to re-read a story in it involving my dad (a ret. ofc.) who was recognized in the magazine for his and his co-workers efforts in taking a killer off the streets, I came across a story entitled "Hero Cop Slain on a Mission of Mercy". The story was about you. I just wanted you to know that you are a true hero. Thank you for your dedicated service and God bless you, your family, and your friends. Please continue to keep watch from above over everyone...always. Jennifer Aaron Wife of Duke G. Aaron, III (EOW 07/20/04) 2006-07-30
Brother McLean,
May the road rise up to meet you, May the wind be always at your back, May the sun shine warm upon your face, And the rains fall soft upon your fields, And until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
Respectfully, You’re Brothers in Blue

Not a day goes by that I don't think about you. I still work for the NYCHA and still respond to Tilden Houses. I remember talking to you about your upcoming marriage. We lived in the same neighborhood. You were that special person at PSA2 that everyone loved. A plaque hangs on the wall of PSA2. You will never be forgotten. I am a better person for knowing you. Thank You. Angelo Rosa New York City Housing Authority-Emergency Service Maintenance 2005-12-26
A Million Times
A million times we've needed you, A million times we've cried. If love alone could've saved you, You would have never died. In life we loved you dearly, In death we love you still. In our hearts you hold a place, No one else could ever fill. It broke our hearts to lose you, But you didn't go alone. Part of us went with you, The day God took you home.

Tony if only I knew what you meant to me before the tragedy that befell you. You were my mentor. I will never forget your laugh. You were a helluva cop and a helluva friend. Your death changed me forever. It took away my innocence. I am a better person, a better police officer for having known you. Forever in your debt, Mike. Sergeant Michael Hanson NYPD formerly NYCHA-PD 2004-04-04
