Pete
I think of you often as I do my best to carry your torch. You will never be forgotten and always remembered as a hero to all of us.
Joe III Officer Joseph McElligott Vacaville Police Dept. - Nephew 2009-09-02
On the 41st anniversary of Officer McElligott's death, we honored his service in our patrol briefing by reading his entry from ODMP. Each day, we honor one fallen officer on the anniversary of their death so as to keep them in our thoughts, and also to remind us of the dangers inherent in our job. Officer McElligott is not forgotten. Sergeant Zach Perron Palo Alto (CA) Police Department 2009-06-19
Your heroism and service is honored today, the one hundred and forty-first anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.
Rest In Peace.

Peter,
Every year on this date, May 15th, National Peace Officer's Memorial Day, I visit your memorial at the California Peace Officer's Memorial. I kneel for a few moments at your name and wonder what might have been. I know you are with me, brother, every day when I go to work. I pray you are in a better place and we shall meet when the good Lord decides it is my time. Words can not express my thanks for your service and example.

Officer McElligott, As one officer wrote in a fallen officer's reflection, "No fallen officer should go without a reflection." I would like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice to the citizens of San Francisco. And I would like to add that I find it outrageous that your one of your murderers only had to serve less than 20 years before he was paroled. That's an INJUSTICE and an insult to all LEOs across the country.
