Your heroism and service is honored today, the fourteenth anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was murdered on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

I hold your family in thought and prayer and pray for their solace.
Rest In Peace.

Thinking of you and all of your loved ones today. Continue to keep watch over all of them and appear to them in their dreams in living color so that they know you are near and protecting them. You are a true hero and will never be forgotten.

Mike,
I can't believe you have been gone for nearly 13 years. Today my heart aches so terribly, just like that awful Monday evening when the officer came to the house to tell me about your death. For a few days prior to your death, I had this sadness inside of me that something was going to happen but never imagined that it would happen to you. Yet as the police officer turned around to read from his notepad, I knew then, before he even spoke, that you had died for you were in my thoughts that entire day. I even saw you, in your son, as he walked toward the car after school that day. That image made a chill run through me and I remember saying out loud to myself how he looked so much like you for that brief instant and I prayed for your safety at that moment. It would be years later when I realized, that at that moment in time, was the approx time of your death. Yes, you are still missed dearly, like the times when we all are together for one of those cookouts you loved so much. And especially now that your 5th grandchild was born 2 days ago. It just doesn't seem fair that you aren't here in person to love them and play with them. But I will continue to tell your children and now your granchildren all about you and those goofy antics of yours. I love you and am missing you so much today.

Sis

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Mike and I attended the same basic police class in 1988. He was our Platoon Leader. He was well like and respected by members of our Basic Police Class.

He went on to have distinguished career as a Uniform Officer with the Bureau of Indian Affairs. He received the Department of Interior highest Law Enforcement award for valor. He without risk for his own safety went into a burning house to save a child.

He is missed by all whom he worked with.
