R.I.P. DET. GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN P.O. RUTGERS POLICE 2008-10-16
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family on this anniversary. Former Police Officer D.H.P.D. 2008-08-28
The Badge"
He starts his shift each day To respond to calls unknown. He drives a marked patrol car. A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes To make it safe on the streets. But he usually has a second job 'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday 'Cause he works all year round. And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often, The one whos blood runs blue. He seldom ever gets a thanks, To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops 'Cause people just don't understand That underneath his badge and gun, He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow In this world of drugs and crime. And he gets so mad at the court system 'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work, He prays to God above. Please bring me home after my shift So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car, He's alone down this ole' highway. It's just a little traffic infraction. He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window, And his badge is shining bright. He asked the guy for a driver's license, When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark, Striking the officer in the chest. But the Department's budget didn't buy Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding. His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red. And briefly he thought of his loved ones 'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story Of how this officer had died. And some who listened cared less, But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform With his badge pinned on his chest. He even had his revolver, He died doing his best.

Dear Albert and Family, Albert is my cousin and when I in my teens, I use to tell my friends Albert was my boy friend, because he was so good looking and he would go along with it and they were so jealous. But Albert was cool person go with flow and you are missed and thought of. But you left behind and loving wife and beautiful children and would be so proud of them, as they are of you. I love you and miss you always take care of my mom & dad please. Love, Anne Anne Cousin 2007-09-01
Albert was our close and loyal friend throughout childhood, a hero to us even before he was seen as a hero by others. We recall his many strengths and the ways in which he was so human. We will go on loving and remembering him as long as we live, and hope his life will inspire others to acts of compassion and personal bravery. Albert, You are missed by all of that love you! BUT...What a legacy you left behind. Three beautiful children that I know as you look down from HEAVEN...make you proud. Not to mention Peggy who to this day continues to amaze ALL of us.
Love and miss you, Joanne cousin 2007-08-29
I know you are proud of the Mallen family. Auntie left here with the same blaze of glory as you did. You couldn't have chosen a better wife. My mom loved you, Peggy and your children just like her own. We are first cousins but really we're a blended family. Our parents always made sure we had a playmate other than our own brother or sister. Your buddy was Billy and mine Janice. I know Auntie is taking good care of you! I hope you are not wearing those clogs in heaven. Love you. Marianne 1st cousin 2007-08-29
August 28,1985 our world was shattered by one shotgun blast. But the bad guy did not win. Your three children and I survived and made something positive come out of your brutal, senseless death. I have tried to make things eaiser for the next survivor down the road. I did this through legislation that brought line of duty death benefits up to date. There are still two more pieces of legislation to go and then, I feel, the survivor package will be complete. We miss you still and wish that you could see your new grandson, Ryan Albert. We will always cherish your memory and try to make you proud of us. After all we were and still are, a New Jersey State Police family. Peggy and children 8-28-07 Peggy Mallen Widow 2007-08-28

Hi Uncle Albert,
I can't believe it's been almost 22 years! I still remember the cheers at the basketball games and track meets. I epecially remember when you came to pick me up at gymnastics try-outs. We were all sitting there, hoping to be picked for the team. They announced only one had made the team. I was so excited when my name was called! You said to me in the car that you had no doubt it was me. Speaking of cars, I'll never forget when you drove me home from grandmom's at 20 West. I was 10 and up front and you said, "Now, we can't have our star athletes without a seatbelt!" I've worn one ever since!!! It's funny the things that you remember. I am now 37, a year older than you were when you gave the ultimate sacrifice. It seems so unfair, you were so young and had so much to offer. You would be so proud of Peggy and all that she has done for the NJSP. Your kids sure miss you! You now have a grandson...wow...SURE WISH YOU AND RENE GOT TO MEET HIM. Things aren't the same without GRANDMOM either! I know you are both watching out for us!!! May you always know that you will never be forgotten!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Maryanne Niece 2007-08-14
It has been some 20 years and I find myself still daydreaming back to the days albert would get off of a night shift and come to the local service station that I worked as a kid ....we would talk and sometimes i would go up on the expressway at night and just ride with Al. I believe this bond and guidance he gave me as a young man gave me the tools I needed later in life ....I can still see him pull up in that Great Big Whit Station Wagon of his moms or Janets Yellow Corvette...not to mention his little blue chevette...smoking his cigar and have a 16oz bud.....he had a great impact on me as a kid and still to this day ......

Peggy,
Always there, always with a smile and a helping hand. Thank you for helping Denise, Carmen and I get through the emotional trip in D.C. You have been a tremendous help throughout our tragic loss of Bert.
I have many memories of the trip but one that stands out most promenently is the one on the Capitol lawn. The Zimmerman family name was called and I remember getting up, tears in my eyes, head down and something told me to look over to the right, and there you all were, the Survivors of the Triangle, smiling and waving and giving us support. I then held my head up proudly and thought, we can do this. They have walked in our shoes and they have survived. God Bless you for helping those that follow behind you.

May you continually watch over us. Your sacrifice for the safety of New Jersey citizens will not be forgotten. You are sadly missed, but your smile and humor will always be with us. Sister-Jackie and Niece-Maryanne
