I cannot believe our justice system. Giving the maggott another week to live. What about the family who had no time to say goodbye or I Love You. We pray that justice will be served.

I was in my first year with SPD, when i met you. though only knowing you for such a short time, i remembered how painful it was for so many on our department as well as the other law enforcement agencies within the city,county, and throughout the country to deal with the loss of one of our own. "The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

I seen your story on the news yesterday and I hope justice is finally served. You fought the good fight and deserve justice.
I know all to well of your families pain. My father, Kenneth Guy Kaner was killed in the line of duty on June 19, 1970. I know all these brave men are now guarding the gates of heaven.

I heard of your story today, I am very upset with what people do to law enforecement officers with not showing respect until they need you.

My Dad is a retired detective, my brother is a constable, my cousin is a constable, my sister is a constable and my family friends are. I feel for them each day and hope that some criminal will not do what they did to you.

May you rest in heaven, may justice be served 17JUL07. I also hope that justice is served for the right criminal, as too often we prosecute the innoccent. I know that the guy that did this is appealing that it was not him. So one day he will face his real judegment by someone who knows for sure what happened that day.

In my memory you are now brother.

You died just 5 months after I began my career in law enforcement. There are people working to commute your killer's sentence. I hope that they don't lose sight that you were a person too; a person who was killed for protecting others and the individual found responsible in court and after appeal processes never gave you the chance to live a full life. I never knew you and only learned of your death on the local news website tonight. The Department of Corrections annouced today that the suspect in your case is scheduled to be executed on July 17, 2007. The U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear his latest appeal on Monday. After 18 years your family and co-workers will finally get the justice that is deserved. Rest in peace.
