Today the L.A. Co. Sheriff Dept is holding it's 32nd Annual Memorial Torch Relay. Hard to believe that 27 years ago, also on a Friday night, you ran in honor of those that went before you, and 26 years ago we gathered in the parking lot at Carson Station as a huge group took off, torch in hand, to honor and remember you. Both poignant memories, both bringing tears. I know that today, as the newer and younger deputies carry that torch, you will be on the hearts and minds of many, and that you are still with us. I miss you. Anonymous

Mickey, always in my thoughts - how I wish I had made it to LA to see you, it was always my plan, who knew time was so short. Memories of good times with you when we were kids always abide and I still cry because I had so planned to reconnect with you. Every March I cry. And to Jane: love to you. Rev R. 26 years and each time an officer is killed the tears come and you are mourned anew. This has been a tough weekend with 4 Oakland officers killed... not exact circumstances but similar enough to feel the anger all over again, not to mention the pain. Thank you Randy for always keeping Mike's memory alive... so many of his friends and collegues promised they would never forget, and we never have. God Bless each and every one of you. J

Mike ~ 25 years... how is it possible? I am so grateful that they are having a memorial for you. I would be there if I could ~ I am out of State and unable to to be there physically, but I will be there in spirit. And to all our old friends (not that any of us are "old"), thank you for being there and honoring Mike. He has been gone for 25 years, but he will never, ever be forgotten. Love never dies. Jane

Mike: After 25 years, we still haven't forgot. For those that read this in time, a rememberance of you will be held at Carson Station tomorrow, March 19, 2008 at 11 am.
Many of your former co-workers and partners will be in attendance. As many have said, "You're gone, but you're not forgotten." Once again it's shown that we just won't forget! I'm sure we'll sense your spirit being with us. Retired Lieutenant LASD - Carson Station 2008-03-18
"The Badge" He starts his shift each day To respond to calls unknown. He drives a marked patrol car. A police officer he is known. He's paid by the citizens' taxes To make it safe on the streets. But he usually has a second job 'Cause a waitress has his salary beat. Now he doesn't know a holiday 'Cause he works all year round. And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive At his home he cannot be found. He's cursed and assaulted often, The one whos blood runs blue. He seldom ever gets a thanks, To some he's just a fool. His friends are always other cops 'Cause people just don't understand That underneath his badge and gun, He's just another man. He knows there might not be a tomorrow In this world of drugs and crime. And he gets so mad at the court system 'Cause the crooks don't get any time. And each day when he leaves for work, He prays to God above. Please bring me home after my shift So I can see the ones I love. But tonight he stops a speeding car, He's alone down this ole' highway. It's just a little traffic infraction. He does it everyday. Well, he walks up to the driver's window, And his badge is shining bright. He asked the guy for a driver's license, When a shot rang through the night. Yes, the bullet hit its mark, Striking the officer in the chest. But the Department's budget didn't buy Each officer a bullet-proof vest. So he lay on the ground bleeding. His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red. And briefly he thought of his loved ones 'Cause in a moment the officer was dead. In the news they told the story Of how this officer had died. And some who listened cared less, But those who loved him cried. Well, they buried him in uniform With his badge pinned on his chest. He even had his revolver, He died doing his best.
