Norman,

The day you died was the day my heart died. It was so
unreal. Was this real, this can not be, you were one of the good ones. Very rare, a wonderful personality that is truly missed by me. I remember the talks we had in Flint Park. The jogging around that park, the racing we did, and I can remember beating you several times (racing) and you would be out of breathe. Those are good memories that will be with me forever. I know in my heart that we will meet again and we will pickup where we left off, and I will just beat you again Norman. I wish the time we had was years and not just months. I was truly blessed to just know you. Sleep precious one, for the creator will awaken you physically to live forever. A friend forever. Me.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Your twin sister has raised your niece and seeing her picture made me think of you and so I did a search and found you. I remember the Saturday that you fell away. I was nine years old and my mother, your niece who was only two years older than you was distraught and in tears. It was unbelieveable to me. You were such a nice Uncle to have. My first cousin now follows your path and as my aunt mentioned in her reflection, his middle name was your first. Continue to rest in peace. Your Great Niece Nicky

A few Years ago I met your cousin, and we have become good friends since then. One day he shared the story of you, and that tragic day. He also told me of how you were a great police officer, and a great person. 24 years later, and I could still see the sadness as he told me of you. I know your family, friends, and brother/sister officers still miss you very much. I'm sorry I never had the honor of meeting you. Rest in Peace.

You'll Never Walk Alone

When you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark.
At the end of the storm is a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a lark.
Walk on through the wind,
Walk on through the rain,
Tho' your dreams be tossed and blown.
Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart and you'll never walk alone,
You'll never walk alone.

~~~~~The Broken Chain~~~~~
We little knew that morning that God was going to call your name.~~In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same.~~It broke our hearts to lose you, you did not go alone; for part of us went with you, the day God called you home.~~You left us peaceful memories, your love is still our guide; and though we cannot see you, you are always at our side.~~Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same; but as God calls us one by one, the Chain will link again.
Trooper Killough, it's hard to believe that it has been 25 years since your death and yet I remember it like it happened yesterday. I lived less than two blocks from where you were killed and it was the talk of the neighborhood for quite some time. It made me realize the difficult nature of police work and also that it takes a special breed of person to do this job. Iam reminded of that daily as I work the front desks at the Pima County Jail in Tucson, AZ- far away from Flint, MI, but the task remains difficult-but we know you watch over us and keep us safe as we continue the watch. Godspeed, brother
