To the Hughes Family,
On this 50th anniversary of Officer Hughes sacrifice, I wanted to say that my dad, retired Sgt. Granville B. Brill (DC Department of Corrections) started working at Lorton Reformatory on the same day as Officer Hughes. He was working the day he died and he never really got over it. He often spoke highly of Mr. Hughes and their friendship. My dad is now gone too-I hope they are both at peace and free from worry. God Bless.

Michael, I never knew you, but over the years I worked on "the Hill" I heard your name mention on numerous occasions, and there was a plaque on the Assembly Room wall in your honor. I feel as if I knew you over the years. You served the citizens of D.C. and gave them your all. It is a honor to have walked the hallowed grounds that you walked. Rest in Peace my fellow officer!
