 | Officer James Richard Greene Atlanta Police Department Georgia Wednesday, November 3, 1971 |
Though I never knew him, he was part of my Law Enforcement family and I will mourn this deep loss the rest of my life. My heart aches with all the losses we have suffered, and continue to suffer, through the years. God is our only peace in such incidents & our only real comfort comes from Him. May His strength, comfort & peace continue to be the sustaining force in the lives of all who knew this beloved officer; and may it somehow help to know he is remembered; and that we relentlessly persued those involved. Officer Greene, today marks the 35th anniversary of your murder at the hands of some misguided barbarians. I can only hope they faced true justice in the next world since none seemed to face it in this one.
Your efforts on behalf of the citizens of Atlanta and all peaceful innocent people have not been forgotten. I know in my heart that, though you were taken from this world bodily, you never left your family.
God Bless you and may you continue to Rest in Peace, Brother. Ptl. Jim Leahy, Jr. Harvard University Police Dept. 2006-11-03

Dear Officer Greene,
Our deepest sympathy to you and the family. Please know that our prayers are for both you and your loved ones. This murder was so senseless.
On this dark and scornful day a righteous man was taken from us all. His bravery, dedication and unwavering will to help those who could not or would not help themselves did not go unnoticed.
We will meet you someday, sir. In the meantime, please protect us and pray for us from above. We love you, and thank you. Grandma & Grandpa Hinkle Parents of a Deputy Sheriff 2004-10-14
Hi Jimmy ...
I remember the Detective that was following up on your case calling me here in North Carolina a year or two ago to see if we could open up one of our old cases. He thought it might be connected to yours somehow and it involved a case from New York too. I don't remember if our information helped him out any, but I was glad to find out that he was able to get the guy that took your life and that the bad guy was convicted of your murder. I didn't know you personally. I was only one year old when you died. But any officer's death saddens me. I'm sure you were a great guy. Maybe now you can rest in peace. God bless those that knew you, those that you worked with, those that continue to work to keep Atlanta safe, and the family that you left behind.
