Dear Holly,

I knew your Dad when I was a process server. Your dad gave me a speeding ticket once, I was so mad of course I was wrong. When I saw him waiting outside a courtroom I told him I thought it was him who gave me a ticket a year earlier he tried to blame it on Kennedy. I walked over to the records window and had them pull up the records and sure enough it was signed by him. We laughed and became friends. He was once sitting outside my son's school during a parents night, waiting to write someone up again. I had 2 more pictures left on my camera. I gave your Mom a copy of one with him standing outside his car. I also gave one to Sheriff Dupnick after your Dad died.
The last time I saw your Dad was at Tucson Mall I had just had my daughter who now is 25. He said to me "aren't little girls great?" He would be so proud of you Holly, I remember when he told me your Mom delivered you. I knew about your brother Shannon but he was so excited at having a new baby. Then a few yrs went by before I saw him at the mall.
There's so many stories I could share with you about your Dad so feel free to email me. I hope your Mother is doing well.

Daddy,

It has been so many years and yet the pain of losing you is as strong today as it was 22 years ago. I wish we'd had more time, I wish I had more memories of you. I was so little and it is so hard to remember. Your picture on the wall and your name on the memorial cause both pride in my chest and pain in my heart. Sometimes just walking past them into work felt unbearable. But for so many years I was thankful yours was the last name on the memorial....but now that is not the case. Every time we lose another Deputy or Officer, I pray....I pray that you are there to welcome them on the other side and to guide them.

On another note you would not believe how much Shannon looks like you. And even though he was also young when you were taken from us....I see some of the same quirks and facial expressions in him as I do in pictures of you. He also has your notorious love of playing pranks.

I hope that one day I can do your memory justice and follow in your footsteps....

I love you daddy. I miss you terribly. Every happy event in my life has been marked by sadness that you were not there to share it with me. There is not a day that goes by that I do not think of you.

Your Daughter Forever,
Holly

For any of my fathers friends/coworkers who are reading this...I would love to hear of any memories you have of my dad. I haven't found it easy to ask for this but it would mean the world to me. Your memories are all I have left of him. Thank you

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Randy

To a good friend and a good officer. I still have a picture of you asleep at a party we had. Sorry I missed your funeral, I still feel bad about that. You are missed.

Brother Graves,

May the road rise up to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
And the rains fall soft upon your fields,
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Respectfully,
You’re Brothers in Blue
