Trooper Wohlers name has stuck in my mind all these years. I was on my way up I-70 to hunt that day and heard about it on the radio. I've never forgotten his name and I hope those two guys think of him every day from their prison home. Such a senseless disregard for life. Such a good Man so close to retirement
God Bless you, Sir. I'm certain I'll never forget Anonymous

I will never forget the tragedy. He had chosen to stay on for a few more years as he so enjoyed teaching others as an F.T.O. His son David was to be the first on scene to find his father, and his lovely wife Julie lost her soul mate. I knew them all well, felt and shared their pain.
Lyle represented all that is good and fair in life. It was, and still is an honor to have represented his family at the LOD funeral services for such a dedicated trooper. May he rest in peace. Mark Anello Former CSP-Family representative at LOD Funeral 2008-04-17
I have seen many old pictures of you, and you look like such a kind man. I have heard many stories, too, and you were well liked and respected. I'm so sorry this happened to you and your family. I hope they have found some peace. I am honored to humbled to follow in your footsteps and wear the same uniform. Thank you for your service; rest well. Trooper CSP 2008-02-03
I was rode with Lyle when I was alot younger. I had the best time, being it was my first ride along. When he was killed I was at his services and later helped with his memorial in the Idaho Springs city park. I have learned from his situation and when I go on duty I will always remember the day that I got to go out on a ride with him. Reserve Shane Dolan Friend 2008-01-17
Rest in peace, Lyle. John Marks Former Chief, Idaho Springs PD 2007-12-17

I was in the academy when the death of Trooper Lyle Wohlers took place. I was always inspired of who this great Trooper was and who he represented. This trajic traffic stop is always on my mind when contacting individuals. Lessons learned on that day will be a trajic reminder to all in law enforcement that you can't be too careful with anyone you deal with. Trooper Lyle F. Wohlers. You are missed. Deputy (Traffic) Ron Brandt Adams County Sheriff's Office 2007-10-31
Lyle I miss you; you were a great FTO and an outstanding example of how to treat others. Every time a blessing comes our way your song,The Dance, or your number T-(13)appears. I can still hear your laugh and see your smile. You were with me at the beginning of my career and you will be in my thoughts till the end. Trooper Colorado State Patrol 2007-10-25
The Badge" He starts his shift each day To respond to calls unknown. He drives a marked patrol car. A police officer he is known. He's paid by the citizens' taxes To make it safe on the streets. But he usually has a second job 'Cause a waitress has his salary beat. Now he doesn't know a holiday 'Cause he works all year round. And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive At his home he cannot be found. He's cursed and assaulted often, The one whos blood runs blue. He seldom ever gets a thanks, To some he's just a fool. His friends are always other cops 'Cause people just don't understand That underneath his badge and gun, He's just another man. He knows there might not be a tomorrow In this world of drugs and crime. And he gets so mad at the court system 'Cause the crooks don't get any time. And each day when he leaves for work, He prays to God above. Please bring me home after my shift So I can see the ones I love. But tonight he stops a speeding car, He's alone down this ole' highway. It's just a little traffic infraction. He does it everyday. Well, he walks up to the driver's window, And his badge is shining bright. He asked the guy for a driver's license, When a shot rang through the night. Yes, the bullet hit its mark, Striking the officer in the chest. But the Department's budget didn't buy Each officer a bullet-proof vest. So he lay on the ground bleeding. His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red. And briefly he thought of his loved ones 'Cause in a moment the officer was dead. In the news they told the story Of how this officer had died. And some who listened cared less, But those who loved him cried. Well, they buried him in uniform With his badge pinned on his chest. He even had his revolver, He died doing his best.
