 | Police Officer John P. Burns Baltimore City Police Department Maryland Wednesday, January 7, 1931 |
YOU ARE REMEMBERED TODAY AND THANK YOU SIR FOR YOUR SERVICE VANDENBERGHE MANCHESTER, NH 2008-01-01
John P. Burns was my grandfather. I never met him because he was killed in the line of duty when my mother was only 5 years old. My mother has heard through the years from old-timers that he was a wonderful person and a fine police officer. I have newspaper clippings from his death. My grandmother collapsed at the state funeral presided over by Governor Ritchie. It must have been a very sad time for all who remember it. With God's grace, I hope one day we can all be reunited.

We ask Thy blessings and eternal rest to all our brothers and sisters Who have sacrificed their very lives in the performance of their duties. Give their loved ones the peace and Strength to bear the anguish of their loss. Remove all resentment from their hearts, knowing that eternal peace and rest will abide their departed loved ones forever. This we beg, Thy name forever and ever, Amen.
