A special ceremony was held last year at SQ on the annniversary of your death, arranged by the staff at SQ and myself. We were close like brothers and your loss has left a void within me. Thanks Jim Kinnard for that call!

Sgt. Burchfield
When I arrived from the academy and was assigned to you for my probation in East Block at San Quentin I will never forget the first thing you said to me. "Who is this CYA reject"? You gave me hell for my first 9 months during my probation with you. You also seen me come out of West Block one day with a bloody uniform and I guess I looked a little down and out. Your words to me were "Come on back in tonight, welcome to the circus R.D" From that point on I earned your respect many times during some rough times at San Quentin and I will never forget you. You were a fair sergeant to work for and you will be forever remembered by me. You were always pulling pranks on many of us newly assigned officers but you made San Quentin a good place to work. May you Rest In Peace,

Respectfully

Brother Burchfield,

May the road rise up to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
And the rains fall soft upon your fields,
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Respectfully,
You’re Brothers in Blue

Sarge, I can't believe it has been twenty years. With just two years in, I was still the rookie of our breakfast club that went out once a week after 1st Watch. I still have that empty feeling I felt that day..it comes back to me whenever I hear your name or another officer falls. You are still missed and remembered. Take care of our newest fallen hero.

Well Sarge as you know you have a rookie to look after up there in heaven. C.O. Gonzalez from Chino.. Watch over him. You know how those Raiders Fans are...
Your wife is doing an excellent job here for all of us that walk the line. I know you are proud of her.
You are not forgotten. There are too many of us dinosaurs still around that remember....
Rest In Peace...
