Your heroism and service is honored today, the 28th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Though your sacrifice was made years ago, your memory will always be honored and revered.

Though I never knew him, he was part of my Law Enforcement family and I will mourn this deep loss the rest of my life. My heart aches with all the losses we have suffered, and continue to suffer, through the years. God is our only peace in such incidents & our only real comfort comes from Him. May His strength, comfort & peace continue to be the sustaining force in the lives of all who knew this beloved officer; and may it somehow help to know he is not forgotten.

April 10th came and went like any old ordinary day for everyone else. I, on the other hand, remembered your birthday and how you weren't here for me to call. I want to thank you for being that patient dad who had wisdom and great guidance. I still have those days when I cry alot, but it's only because I miss you soooo much and wish that you were able to have met your grandsons. They're awesome!

When I was 13 years old, Officer Brown had a talk with me one evening at my mother's request. I was just being a typical teen-ager and not following the rules. I will always remember his stern but kind lecture that night. The amount of kindness and professionalism that he showed me that day has always stuck in my head and is one of the reasons I decided to pursue a career in Law Enforcement.

I remember the day that he was killed. My mom and I had just left a baseball card trading shop on Main St. in Nyack. We knew something really big was going down because of all the sirens and police cars flying by. Word got around fast in that small town of 6,000 and we soon learned of the deaths of Sgt. O'Grady, Brown and the Brink's Guard. It was a very sad day for the local community. I remember riding my bike to the spot where he was shot and feeling so sad about his death but also honored to have personally connected with him during our brief conversation earliar that year.

I will never forget the day of the funeral, police cars from all over the northeast and the country lined up along Broadway, a busy street that ran north to south in this small town along the Hudson river. I rode my bike on the sidewalk and kept looking at all the police cars in amazement, the police cars stretched for what seemed like miles. I was amazed at how many people came to show their respect and offer support to this fallen officer, his friends, his family and the community.

A true hero died that day but he will never be fogotten...

May God Bless him and all the other people that put their lives on the line day in and day out to protect their local communities...it is a better world because of their courage and unselfish service.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Officer Brown, all of us from the neighborhood knew you as "Chipper Brown". You were a friend to everyone on the "Block". We hated to see that happen to you and "Sgt,Ogrady".
It's Been 26 years. But it was only yesterday that I saw you smile and wave, as you cruised down Franklin st, in your patrol car. Then in the Blink of an eye, You were gone from the community's lives forever. But all of your Kind ways and your brave smile, will always live in our hearts forever.

Officer Brown, today marks the 25 anniversary of your murder at the hands of some misguided barbarians. I can only hope they faced true justice in the next world since none seemed to face it in this one.

Your efforts on behalf of the citizens of Nyack and all peaceful innocent people have not been forgotten. I know in my heart that, though you were taken from this world bodily, you never left your family.

Even though one of those responsible for your passing was released last month she will face a higher court. There will be no chance for parole and the judgement will be final.
