Deputy Etheridge,
I never got a chance to meet you, and I know I am late in leaving this reflection, I appreciate the time that you kept this community safe, your bravery will always be remembered. You will never be forgotten, your memory will live on forever in your family, friends, and those of us who never had the honor of knowing you. I heard a quote a while back that I feel fits you perfectly. "There's heroes and there are legends, heroes get remembered, and legends never die" Deputy Etheride you are a hero and a legend, you will always be remembered and your spirit will never die. God bless you and your family!!

I stopped by your resting place on 11/27/2009 to pay my repsects. I know we didnt know each other all that well Brian but when we learned about our fallen brothers in the academy I never put much thought into it because it had been so long since it happened. Rest assured brother your family is well taken care of. Its hard to spot a blue or tan uniform that doesnt have a black band on their wrist. We see your face every time we go to squad meeting and it brings some comfort knowing we have you watching over us. Rest In Peace Deputy Etheridge

Brian we went to school together and we graduated together, I have even called upon you for advice, and when the radio call went out and they said your name, I lost it totally, I keep asking myself why, you were a strong man, a wonderful husband and a awesome father, because of you this world is a better place and the lives that you helped changed and effected are countless.

I visit you nearly 4 times a week, in hopes that I this nightmare will end and you will be back in uniform, I know that your in a better place now, watchingover all of us, your a hero Brian and you will NEVER be forgotten, and your family will always be taken care of and loved

God Bless Brother, We will meet again !!!!!

WAY TOO YOUNG, AND WAY TOO SOON! Sedgwick County and the State of Kansas suffered a tremendous loss. I hope your daughter grows up knowing her daddy died a true hero, but one without a cape or superpowers. May your family relish the good times, laughter, and HAPPY moments, rather than be subject to the tragegy. Thank you for your service, your time, and your dedication to your profession. Rest in Peace Deputy Etheridge.

I did not know Deputy Etheridge but as a former full time officer and now a reserve I know of the sacrifices we make in the profession we have chosen. Brian gave the ultimate sacrifice. My thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, daughter, and his entire family including his fellow deputies and officers of the Sedgwick Co. S.O. and Wichita PD. Rest in peace Brian as your fellow brothers in blue have the watch now. You will always be remembered as a HERO.

One of Our Own
Dedicated to the Memory
Of
Deputy Brian S. Etheridge

On the morning of his recruit graduation
He took an oath to serve and protect
And joined a proud tradition
When he became
One of Our Own

And for all too short a time
He took his place by our side
Taking a stand against evil and crime
Serving with honor
One of Our Own

It was a beautiful fall day
When he made his last call
All too soon he went away
When we lost
One of Our Own

With great sorrow we mourn him
The true friend and brother we have lost
Let his memory never dim
For he will forever be
One of Our Own

Brian, everyone has replayed the events of that tragic day a thousand times over; wishing there was something we could have done different. We try to draw comfort in knowing that everything was out of our hands. We will never know how many officers you saved by your own brave actions and we shall remain forever grateful. Rest easy brother, we will carry on, but we will never forget.

Your senseless death and your photo reminds us so much of our son and the circumstances surrounding his death. May the Good Lord hold your family close in the palm of his hand, during these dark days ahead. Thank you, Deputy Etheridge, for your service and sacrifice. We salute you, sir.

Though I never knew him, he was part of my Law Enforcement family, and I will mourn this deep loss the rest of my life. My heart aches with all the losses we have suffered, and continue to suffer, through the years. God is our only peace in such incidents & our only real comfort comes from Him. May His strength, comfort & peace continue to be the sustaining force in the lives of all who knew this beloved officer; and may it somehow help to know they do not grieve alone.
