I just wanted to let you, your family, friends, and coworkers know that you are not forgotten. We just went through our first anniversary of a similar tragedy and particularly on this day we remember exactly what we were doing one year ago, how we found out, and unfortunately relive it as it just happened.

I hope you find some peace in knowing that those you've never met are thinking about you and praying for you to find strength to get through tragedy.

As I sit here remembering my cousin who was also struck and killed by a driver, may Officer Burnfield's family know that David greeted him home as he had arrived 3 weeks earlier in the same manner. Officer Burnfield will never be forgotten as the hero he is, that he and David died in the same manner for the safety of others. May Officer Burnfield's family know that not only he is not alone, but the families they left behind are also not alone. I do know how much you miss him and are always thinking about him, and how grateful we are all for him. I am so sorry for your loss. Thank you Officer Burnfield for keeping others safe, may you rest in peace knowing your 'blue' family has taken over your watch.

To the family and friends of Officer Nathaniel Burnfield and his fellow officers:

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Officer Burnfield was tragically killed.

To Officer Burnfield's family, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in the Bay Area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the service Nathan gave to his community and the citizens of Pennsylvania, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on November 4, 2008.
