The wicked fleee where no man pursueth, but the righteous are bold as a lion.
Proverbs 28:1

May God be with you and all who mourn you. May he give them the strength to carry on. You are in my thoughts and prayers

To his kids: Hi, you probably already know all, this, but I just want to make sure you do. Your dad is a hero, now and forever, he will never be forgotten. He loves you now and forever. Never forget that. You are in the thoughts and prayers of many.

ASCENSION

And if I go,
While you’re still here---
Know that I live on,
Vibrating to a different measure
--behind a thin veil you cannot see through.
You will not see me,
So you must have faith.
I wait for the time when we can soar together again,
--both aware of each other.
Until then, live your life to its fullest,
And when you need me,
Just whisper my name in your heart,
…I will be there.

I never met you and I don't even know Sheriff Scott Berry, but my wife is a friend of his. Her high regards for him tell me that he would only employ quality deputies, and from his reflection about you, you cared about the public's safety. I occasionally travel on the Hog Mountain Road going to Winder. Thank you, sir, for your dedication to your community and your department!

I have started to write this several times over the past few days, and I have struggled with how to describe David. He is absolutely the hardest working man I have known in my 32 years on the job. He absolutely loved his family, and totally loved working traffic. In the 4 years he was with me, he wrote 11,000 traffic citations. He gave 19 over before he took enforcement action, but at 20 over, you were his. He was firm but fair. He had a glovebox full of fake ID's and drivers licenses, and he was always anxious to add another to his collection.
David didn't linger around the office, he didn't want to be promoted and he certainly didn't vie for the attention of his supervisors. He just worked hard....it was his mission in life to eliminate traffic fatalities in Oconee County, even if he had to do it alone. The irony of his losing his life to a car is not lost on me, or any of us at the Sheriff's Office.
I miss David.

My husband was David's best friend. They met in the Army in 1979 and have been best friends ever since. David's ex-wife Melissan and I have been best friends since the day we met. The four of us had some good times! David was the funniest, most down-to-Earth guy. He would tell it like it was. He will be missed by all of us. If only he had been wearing a helmet...We love you, David!
