 | Police Officer Gary Allen Gryder Houston Police Department Texas Sunday, June 29, 2008 |
Gary, just want to say your 'words of wisdom" still keep me motivated, if not sometimes sane: "Where you are now, and where you have been are always the worst, yet where you are going is always the best. That's a bunch of bull!" You had that right!! For what it's worth, I still suck at poker, but don't lose as much, thanks to you...yet I still lose! GO FIGURE!
I am saddened by your death constantly, although we worked together only a short time. Your zest for life, family and work inspired me to look beyond "the present" and look forward to "the future."
Thank you for the friendship, the advice, the company. Rest in Peace knowing you did not leave just a memory, but rather a legacy. Anonymous

This is why I hate drunk driving. You dedicated your life to helping others for 23 years and one moron comes by and wipes it all away in seconds. This is a tremendous loss for your family, friends and co-workers. May the God of ALL peace walk thru this with them and may they feel His presence and healing and come to know His salvation in Jesus Christ our Lord. Lynn Kole Bellingham, WA Anonymous

We are sorry for your Loss. My family has also experienced the loss of a loved one in the line of Duty. This was sent to us, We found this helpful. Hope this helps your family as well.
My Dearest Family and Friends
Somethings I'd like to say but first of all to let you know that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from Heaven where I dwell with Our Lord above. where there's no more tears or sadness just eternal Love. Please don't be unhappy because I'm out of sight, remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and Night.
The Day I had to leave you when my Life on earth was through God picked me up and hugged me and He said I welcome you. It's good to have you back again, You were missed while you were gone. As for your Dearest Family they'll be here later on. I need you here so badly as part of my big plan. Theres so much we have to do to help our Moral Man. Then God gave me a list of things that He wished for me to do, and foremost on that list of mine is to watch and care for you. I'll be beside you everyday and through out the years, And when your sad. I'm standing there to wipe away your tears. When You lie in bed at night the day's chores put to flight God and I are close you in the middle of the night. When you think of my life on Earth and all the loving years, because your only human they are bound to bring you tears.
Please don't be afraid to cry, it does releive the pain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned, But if I were to tell you You wouldn't understand. One thing is for certain, though my life on Earth is over I'm closer to you now than I ever was before.
To My many Friends, Trust God knows what is best.I'm still not far away from you I'm just beyond the crest.
So, If you can help somebody who is in sorrow or in pain, then you can say to God at night my day was not in vain. And now I am contented that with my life. it was worth while,Knowing as I passed along the way I made somebody smile. If you meet somebody who is down and feeling low just lend a hand and pick him up as on your way you go. When Your walking down the street and you've got me on your mind just know Im walking in your footstep only a half a step behind. And if you feel a gentel breeze or wind upon your face thats me just giving you a great big hug or just a soft embrace. I will always love you from the land way up above We'll be in touch again soon PS God sends his Love. Anonymous

I would like to start out by saying my heart goes out to the family members of Gary Gryder. I didnt know Mr. Gryder personally but on the night of the accident around 4:30 am, Mr. Gryder pulled me and friend over on the Katy Freeway feeder road. It's was nothing but a routine stop we had a brake light that was out. He was real cool in a sense ...meaning his personality. He checked our paperwork and proceeded to let us go. He made a couple of jokes with us, before we left,we all laughed and we proceeded on our way. Before he left i looked up at his name tag, it read G.GRYDER and i called him by his name and told him to have a good night; he said the same. On the ride home me and my friend kept talking about how down to earth Mr. Gryder was and how he had a good sense of humor or what not. Not knowing we would probally be one of the last people who would see him alive.I am not sure why Mr. Gryder and i crossed paths that morning but i was awoken the next morning to a text message from my friend telling me that the officer who pulled us over, only hours prior had gotten killed. That text sent chills through my body. My purpose for writing this is just to inform people that from what i saw...Mr. Gryder was a good man and he did not deserve that. My deepest sympathy to the family Janel Blackwell none 2008-10-28

May God lay his healing hand upon the family and friends of Officer Gryder and may they know he will never be forgotten. Thank you Officer Gryder for your dedicated service to the people of Texas and the United States. James Sheppard Father of Jason L. Sheppard EOW 12/7/06 2008-10-18
To those who loved Officer Gryder, my heart goes to you all. Know that you're not alone in this journey you walk. I lost my fiance in the line of duty January 2003 and my world was forever changed. It's been a long hard road, and even as time as gone forward, and I've found many reasons and ways to smile, I still have not forgotten the man that he was. Dennis was a beautiful person and he forever has a part of my heart, just as I'm sure Gary will always be a part of yours.
It takes a special person to put their lives on the line everyday to make this world a little safer for us all. I know many of these men never would've thought of themselves as "heroes" but they were in so many ways. It's sad that it they had to lose their lives for some of us to see that. Having said that, thank you Officer Gryder for helping to make this world a better place. You will not be forgotten here in Winnipeg. I know this isn't a very manly thing to do, but if you happen to run into Dennis up there, please give him a big hug for the kids and I. Dennis was a good man and we miss him more than words can say.
Wishing those who loved you brighter and better days,
Jocelyne

To the family and friends of Officer Gryder and the members of the Houston Police Dept.
On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you have suffered when Officer Gryder was tragically killed.
To Officer Gryder's family, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in the Bay Area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace and for justice for Gary's senseless death.
Heaven may have another hero, but how I wish it wasn't so. In reading his reflections, I can see that Gary was an amazing man.
This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the service Gary gave to his community and the citizens of Texas, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on June 29, 2008.

Hey Gary! Last night I was trying to clear an accident in a very bad location (a freeway, on a blind curve) just me and the wrecker driver, with moderately heavy traffic for that time of night(no other units available to assist). After a "near-close-call", I swear you were there, helping me out. I was "spooked" to say the least. Then, oddly, I was relaxed, calm even (I HATE WORKING FREEWAYS!!) knowing you were looking after me. 3 cars made the curve..slowly..and all the drivers stopped to ask if I needed any help!! Not a single car other than them came through! After the wrecker loaded and we began to clear, traffic seemed to pick up again! Thank you Gary..and continue to look out for the others, as I know you will, and as you did while you were here. Anonymous

Gary will be remembered by his co-workers and friends forever. He was the type of person that made you smile as soon as you saw him. Even from across a parking lot. His quick wit and positive attitude made you glad to be his friend. The world is a little darker without his smile to brighten it up.
Our prayers for his family. We will not forget. Sgt Laura Spires Houston Police Department 2008-07-11
