I am dismayed that the county you worked for is insisting that the words you wrote to your parents on the first day of the job be removed from your memorial. I called the County Administrator and two supervisors to express my outrage. Surely there must be some law firm in Wisconsin who represents officers and police associations who would be willing to mount a pro bono legal challenge to their decision.

Remembering Office Zunker this evening after watching the candlelight vigil in Washington D.C. on the webcast. Watching it brought back the pain, numbness and grief we felt when we were there 6 years ago for our daughter Melissa (EOW 8/1/02 Mpls PD) We keep Jason, his wife, parents, family and fellow officers in our thoughts and prayers. May you find comfort in memories and knowing Jason was a hero, who was doing his job, to protect the public. Now he is patroling the roads in heaven. God Bless!

Forgive me for missing the anniversary of your E.O.W., but I felt as though I could not continue to read about so many tragedies. I now realize the visit each day to leave a word of encouragement and hope to the loved ones of others, helps me to remember that I am not alone with my pain and heartbreak. So may I say to your friends and loved ones that my thoughts and prayers are with them now and always. To those who loved Deputy Zunker, my heart goes to you all. Know that you're not alone in this journey you walk. I lost my fiance in the line of duty January 2003 and my world was forever changed. Even as time as gone forward, and I've found many reasons and ways to smile, I still have not forgotten the man that he was. Dennis was a beautiful person and he forever has a part of my heart, just as I'm sure Jason will always be a part of yours.

It takes a special person to put their lives on the line everyday to make this world a little safer for us all. I know many of these men never would've thought of themselves as "heroes" but they were in so many ways. It's sad that it they had to lose their lives for some of us to see that. Having said that, thank you Deputy Zunker for helping to make this world a better place Deputy Zunker. You will not be forgotten here in Winnipeg. I know this isn't a very manly thing to do, but if you happen to run into Dennis up there, please give him a big hug for the kids and I. We miss him more than words can say.
