Sometimes you get the bad guy and sometimes he gets you. I just can't find
the words to tell you how sorry I am you are having to deal with all this sadness.
Thinking of all of you, especially the little daughter, on this one year anniversary.

Zach has been gone nearly a year now. And he is still missed dearly. He was someone to be loved and respected on and off of patrol. We still think about him daily. And our prayers go out to his Mom, Dad, little Brother and his beautiful daughter. And a heartfelt thank you goes out from his Aunt Katie to all of the officers and family members that give of their time and sometimes their lives to make this world we live in a little more sane and a lot more safe. We Love and Miss you Zach!

Trooper Templeton

The young man who struck you that horrible day has been sentenced. The young man was remorseful, and apologetic, however that does not bring you back. There were alot of tears in that courtroom for you Zach. Trooper Hinshaw may be one of the bravest people I know because he was able to stand there and talk about that incident and forgive the person that hit you and him. My thoughts and prayers are with your family and the Hinshaw family. I pass your picture often in the academy hanging on the wall with the other fallen troopers and I always say alittle prayer. I didn't know you, but a fellow law enforcement officer is always a brother!! REST IN PEACE....

Zach

Well lil brother its taken me awhile to get here and do this. I hate it but it is one of the evils of the job we do. There isnt much to say except you can rest now. We will forever watch your little one turn into a lady and we know you are watching to. But rest now cause your walk in hell is over. Thank you for the amazing memories that you left for me. I never will forget!

I never met you, Zach, but I know we have had to pass in the halls of the Academy at one time or another. Your loss is felt by so many; your family, peers, and especially your daughter, for whom I feel the most heartbreak. I'm proud to wear the same uniform. You are a true hero, and I can only hope the rest of us will do you proud. Keep watch over us....
you will live on forever in those who love you.

To The Family of Trooper Zachariah Templeton:

Our thoughts are with you all and I know through this difficult time you will get through it like my daughter Angelica & I (Wanda) did When Trp. Jose A. Rosado passed on 1/24/2007. Remember this phase "Remember the Blessing you had, never the losses." That is what help us everyday of our life.

Rest in peace, Sir! You will never be forgotten.

Police Officer

2007-11-21

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.
